Customer Profile:

District 196 is located in the southern suburbs of Minneapolis and St. Paul. It is the fourth largest school district in Minnesota, serving approximately 28,000 students and more than 150,000 total residents. The district’s 110 square miles encompass all or part of the cities of Rosemount, Apple Valley, Eagan, Burnsville, Coates, Inver Grove Heights and Lakeville, and Empire and Vermillion townships.

Goal:

Independent School District 196 has a bus garage in Rosemount that previously had poles with 2 – 1000W metal halide fixtures in the lot, as well as floods on the building, fuel pump canopy fixtures and wall packs. Their goal for this project was to reduce energy usage and maintenance costs, but also improve the light output to make the lot more secure.

After: New LED Outdoor Fixtures

Solution:

After analyzing the current lighting, the customer requested we replace it with outdoor LED fixtures from Hubbell. Challenges included not only matching the light output of the high watt HIDs but also in positioning the new LED fixtures to light certain parts of the lot such as on the bus hoods for the drivers to perform their daily checks.

Results:

Despite the various challenges, all the needs were met on this project. Light levels from the previous lighting setup were surpassed while still cutting their energy usage by 82%! ISD 196 is estimated to be saving $12,849 annually in energy and maintenance savings.
