Premier Lighting Case Study: Metal Halide Highbays to LED

Customer Profile:

White Bear Machine opened for business in 1968 in White Bear Lake, MN. What began as a smaller custom parts manufacturing shop quickly grew to a high tech, high capacity operation that required larger facilities. Today, WBM is housed in a 30,000 square foot facility serving national and international markets. From this facility, they assist in design, transition to prototype and production of complicated custom assemblies with a variety of metal fabrication equipment.

Goal:

All of the work done by White Bear Machine is under 400W metal halide high bay fixtures. WBM needed better light levels and needed an LED option that would require less upkeep down the line. Jim Ward, President of WBM, met with Premier Lighting and tested different LED high bay options. Ultimately an LED fixture was selected and proposals prepared with Premier Lighting to secure an LED retrofit rebate from the utility company.

400W Metal Halide High Bays

Before: 400W Metal Halide High Bays

Columbia LWS LED High Bay Fixtures

After: New LED Highbay Fixtures

Results:

With the new LED High Bay fixtures installed, the result was an increase in foot candle readings from 23-25 FC to 116-120 FC! The rebate covered about 20% of the installed cost while the LED fixtures reduced energy consumption by approximately 66%, resulting in an annual savings of almost $9,500. Said Jim – “The lighting is insane!! Best investment we’ve made for some time. I thought it would make the shop look worse, but not the case at all.”

Summary:

  • Reduced Energy Usage
  • Increased Light Quality
  • Increased Light Levels
  • Improved Quality Control
  • Longer Lasting Products = Reduced Maintenance Costs
  • Light Level and Color Uniformity
  • Consolidated Product
  • Enhanced Image
  • Reduced Environmental Impact
  • Leveraged Rebates

I am looking at a similar applications for retrofitting for 00 W fixtures to LED in a gym nasion. Can you give me an idea about how much that would cost for the Materials only cost? There are 16 fixtures. Thanks, Mark
