Customer Profile:

Opened on November 2003, Saint Thomas Ice Arena is a multi-purpose facility used by students of Saint Thomas Academy, the University of Saint Thomas, and residents of the surrounding community. The arena features a regulation-sized rink, a weight room, special locker rooms for Saint Thomas Academy and the University of Saint Thomas, a hospitality room and a 1,430-square-foot lobby area.

Goal:

The primary focus for the ice arena was to restore the light levels so they could televise college games. The lighting in place consisted of 8′ 12-lamp fluorescent T5 fixtures that were burning out and depreciating in light output quickly.

Solution:

An LED solution was needed that would deliver the requisite light levels while being efficient enough to maximize energy savings. Premier found an LED fixture that could replace the 8′ 12-lamp T5 fixtures 1 for 1 and improve on the existing light levels to meet their needs.

After: New LED Highbay Fixtures

Results:

Premier did a full-scope retrofit to maximize energy savings all around the building. In addition to retrofitting the ice rink lighting to LED, Premier changed all fluorescent bulbs to Type B LED and occupancy sensors were installed over all wall switches. The exterior lighting was also converted to LED as well which provided a more clean light than the old HPS area lights and wall packs.
