Waterpark LED Lighting – Swimming Pool LED Lighting

New LED Lighting for Radisson Waterpark of America

Radisson Waterpark goes fluorescent to LED

Optimizing lighting for a waterpark or pool is never simple. Most of the fixtures need to be wet location listed and others require damp location due to the humid nature of a swimming pool environment. Further complicating matters is when a light burns out. Maintenance becomes costly as it is typically difficult to access and even more difficult to find a time to install the replacement.

The Radisson Waterpark of America in Bloomington Minnesota encountered many of these same lighting issues. Bulbs burned out and due to it being difficult to access, it was put off. Meanwhile, they surmised that it would be a good plan going forward to not just replace the existing lighting with new bulbs and ballasts, but to focus on getting a longer-lasting lighting alternative to ensure maintenance would not be necessary for some time.

Premier Lighting was tasked with finding the optimal solution for the water park. The first step was doing a photometric analysis of the facility to estimate the light level at all points of the application area. The wet and humid environment was the biggest hurdle, but also to consider was how difficult and costly it was to replace the existing metal halide fixtures. The goal was to find something that would provide low maintenance costs, energy savings, and appropriate light levels. When all the variables were analyzed, it was determined that a vaportight LED fixture would meet all the goals of the project.

LED Hi-Bay Vaportights were the fixture of choice for a number of reasons. Their wet location NSF/IP67 rating meant the water coming at them from all angles would not compromise the fixture’s ability to perform long term. The LED vapor tight high bay also put out over 100 lumens per watt, resulting in significant energy savings, better lighting quality and more uniformity relative to the old metal halides that the Waterpark was previously using.
