A Lighting Emergency – Making Sure Your Facility Is Ready for the next Power Outage

With the power outages sustained over the past month, the effectiveness of emergency lighting systems has been tested. Some had new LED emergency systems, others were using old fluorescent emergency backup ballasts. Some failed spectacularly while others did their intended job.

The commonality for these systems is many now need to be upgraded/replaced. Each particular application will decide which emergency lighting solution will work best, but below are some of the more common emergency setups you will find.

Most LED retrofits of fluorescent lighting went with Type B LED tubes that bypass the ballast and wire direct. Thus the best way to get emergency lighting in this setup is the Keystone KT-EMRG-LED-5-500-AC constant wattage LED emergency backup. This will power any Keystone single-end wired Direct Drive LED tube for 90 minutes at reduced output under emergency mode. If you need more light output than 5W, there is a 12W version, the Keystone KT-EMRG-LED-12-1200-AC.

Another emergency option that can be used in fixtures with LED tubes is the Keystone KT-EMRG-LED-5-500-K1. This won’t power the LED tubes themselves but instead comes with an LED module that is powered for the 90 minute emergency duration, making it a more versatile option that can be used in more LED tube applications as well as fluorescent. Also available in the 12W version for higher output Keystone KT-EMRG-LED-12-1200-K1.

The Keystone KT-EMRG-LED-5-500-AC /DF is a dual-flex conduit version which is designed to be used with LED CFL replacement lamps (LED PLs) as well as recessed LED downlights and LED retrofits.

A solution that is growing more common is the fully enclosed version of this Emergency Kit, the Keystone KT-EMRG-ED-5-500-EN /DF. Utilizes dual flex conduit that fits into 1/2″ knockouts. This is to be used with various LED fixtures like LED Backlit Panels.

If you are in need of some LED Exit Signs, there are many kinds that will fit the bill. Green or red basic exit signs, as well as combo units with bug eyes.
