Fluorescent Underground Garage Lighting Converted to High Output LED T8 Case Study

five15-on-the-park

Customer Profile:

Five15 offers urban homes of uncompromising quality—and a host of amenities—for a life of comfort, wellness and easy access to the countless dining, recreational, and cultural attractions of the West Bank and Downtown Minneapolis.

Goal:

As with many underground parking applications that use fluorescent, the system over time lost effectiveness due to light output degradation of the lamps and failing ballasts. There was a desire to not only save energy with an LED upgrade but to improve the light output for a better look and increased security for tenants.

Before: 4′ Fluorescent 4000K

After: 4′ LED 5000K

Results:

18.5W 2600 lumen LED T8 lamps were used to replace the 4′ fluorescent lamps and the change in light was drastic. The fluorescent ballasts were bypassed as the LED T8 lamps wired direct for more energy and maintenance savings. Light levels increased over 20% and the change in color contributed to a cleaner, safer look.
