GE Current’s LumenChoice Type C system now offers LED T5 lamps! Some time ago they released their LumenChoice LED T8 and it was a big hit, so naturally they expanded to LED T5. This includes both T5HO and T5HE lamps in 2′, 3′ and 4′, so no matter what T5 fluorescent you are looking to convert, they have a comparable replacement option.

What is LumenChoice? First of all, it is a Type C linear LED system which means the LED T8 is powered by an external remote driver. It is very similar to how a fluorescent ballast powers linear fluorescents. The LumenChoice aspect of it means that the lamp’s lumen output is configurable at the LED driver level.

Now there are some fixed drivers that can be used, like a 21W driver or 15W driver and the lamp will respond accordingly (powered more by the 21W driver obviously). But the secret sauce in this operation is the High-watt and Low-watt drivers that GE makes. They come in either 2-lamp or 4-lamp. Each of these drivers have five settings for adjusting the light.

Take the LED/DR/D4L/LW for example. Per the image above, you can choose between five settings on the driver itself for changing the light output. This gives the user the control to determine the best light output for the lighting system based on the application.
