Fluorescent Tube Lighting vs. New Direct/Indirect BlueTooth Controlled LED Fixtures

Premier Lighting has retrofitted hundreds of school classroom over the years to LED. Many times the result was retrofitting the fixtures to Type B ballast bypass LED tubes, or maybe installing a center-basket retrofit kit or new LED panel fixture. Those are all well and good, but a new option has emerged that may be the best of them all!

Meet the Keystone Linta – an architectural-grade, direct/indirect LED linear fixture. Features an unparalleled blend of flexibility, attractive design and high performance specs. Not to mention easy tool-free assembly and modular linking of the fixtures together to create a continuous row of illumination. Like many LED linear strip fixtures, it comes in 2′, 3′, 4′ and 8′ lengths but is also available in different shapes like an X-Shape, T-Shape or L-Shape. All lengths of these fixtures are color-selectable between 2700K/3000K/3500K/4000K/5000K as well as three different power levels to switch between. Yet we’re only getting started delving into the controls.

Keystone Linta linear fixtures also have a selectable switch on them to change the lighting “mode”; 100% of the light can be directed downward, or it can be switched to 70% down/30% up, or 50% down/50% up. This provides great flexibility for the user based on the space they have. On top of that, you can field-install a Keystone SmartLoop Wireless occupancy sensor for additional control. With this installed, it can work not only as an occ sensor but with the Keystone SmartLoop app, the fixtures can be controlled singularly or as a group. This includes choosing the light/dim level or occ sensor settings, so each classroom can be customized as needed!

Each fixture comes with a 15′ aircraft mounting cable kit for suspension mount installations and options for both fixed cable grippers or adjustable cable grippers to slide along the length of the fixture. But there are numerous mounting methods on top of that, from canopy-mount to surface-mount, wall-mount and recessed-mount. There are other accessories too that can be added, such as an emergency backup kit.

Thanks to the added controls on the Keystone Linta fixtures, the school was able to reap even more savings through rebates! The look of the lighting improved greatly, as the pictures above of the fluorescent vs. LED attest. The controls are now in the hands of the user; no complicated remotes or control panels, teachers can now use the SmartLoop app (in addition to the switches on the fixtures themselves) to control the lighting as needed.
