Case Study: Fairview Ridges LED PL to LED Cans

Customer Profile:

AWARD-WINNING CARE FOR THE MINNESOTA RIVER VALLEY M Health Fairview Ridges Hospital provides outstanding care to the Twin Cities communities located south of the river. This includes providing emergency services for the entire family from pediatric emergency care for children to on-site access to heart and cancer care specialists.

Goal:

Fairview Ridges of Burnsville had retrofitted their lobby’s recessed lighting to pin-based LED less than 2 years ago. Yet in that timespan outages were occurring, resulting in inconsistent lighting. They were hoping to get back on track with an improved LED solution that would last longer and provide the even light they needed.

Before/After: Pin-Based LED PL Lamps (Before) vs. new LED Recessed Cans (After)

Results:

The LED PL lamps were replaced with 6″ LED Recessed Downlights in addition to some 14.5W 5000K 4′ LED T8 lamps being installed. The result was a significantly brighter lobby with lighting that would have far less failures in the future. While pin-based LED lamps can work for a quick fix, the CFL PL sockets are brittle and if they are operating off an existing fluorescent ballast, that can result in long-term maintenance issues.

Summary:

  • Reduced Energy Usage
  • Increased Light Quality
  • Increased Light Levels
  • Improved Quality Control
  • Longer Lasting Products = Reduced Maintenance Costs
  • Color Uniformity
  • Enhanced Image
  • Reduced Environmental Impact
  • Leveraged Rebates and Grants

We had the same issue with our PL lamps. Sockets were brittle and lamps started going out, but it wasn’t the lamps that were dead it was the socket issue. New fixtures definitely best for these.
