The best HID LED replacement lamps for many years have been designed by GE Current and they have taken it a step further with their recent releases. More options and SKU’s are now available to allow retrofitting of any pole light, wallpack, area light or other similar fixture that currently is operating HID.

Foremost is the new 277V-480V HID LED replacement line. The previous 480V option was 347V-480V but now this covers 277V-480V allowing it to be used universally for high-wattage HID retrofits. At 115W and 150W all the way up to 450W, GE’s HID LED Cob line has a high efficacy in the range of 150 LPW (lumens per watt) to make sure you don’t lose light output whether you are replacing a 400W or 1000W HID. GE Current also continues to maintain the ANSI standard shape when converting HID to LED, ensuring that you have the right size lamp which was too often a problem with earlier LED cobs that were too large.

All GE HID LED replacement bulbs are now Type B ballast bypass style which further reduces energy use and eliminates the need to maintain a compatible ballast within the fixture. Simply bypass it and wire direct to reap the benefits of 60-75% less energy along with the new LED having over 3x the lifespan of the old HID. Tether kit and in-line fused included with lamp.

Another option GE has focused on for consumers focuses around color temps. When HID LED retrofits first became popular, 4000K and 5000K were the norm for these lamps when converting to LED. This was a stark contrast from the HID lamps of yore that were in the warmer range with a yellow/amber look with color temps in the 2000K-3000K range or lower. Many yearned for these same colors in LED especially in outdoor applications to maintain a consistent look and also with consideration to light pollution/dark skies and to not disturb nature. On that note GE with their lower wattage HID LED lamps now has offerings in 3500K, 3000K and even down to 2450K for their 50W and 80W lamps! Many who ordered GEN1 HID LED lamps years ago that were ballast compatible are now retrofitting to Type B with these warmer color temps.
