GE Current for years has led the surge in LED HID replacement bulbs, and heading into 2024 they have not rested on their laurels. The innovation continues with several notable new types of LED HID replacements. As always they have kept their promise of maintaining the same HID ANSI size with their LED replacement bulbs.

For one they have expanded on their SpectraChoice LumenChoice lamps. Previously they had the GE LED/LC/ED17/7SC bulb which is an ED17 size LED HID replacement lamp that is color selectable between 3000K/4000K/5000K and power selectable between 21W/35W/45W. This made it a great replacement for 50W-100W HID sources. Now they have created ED23.5 (EX39 mogul base), ED23.5M (E26 medium base) and ED28 lamps with the same SpectraChoice/LumenChoice technology so that you can replace higher wattage HID sources with one SKU. All in 120-277V. The GE LED/LC/ED28/7SC for example can replace 200W-400W HID sources by using the wattage toggle to choose between 90W/115W/150W LED in addition to the color temp toggle switch. Even better, GE Current now supplies an E26->E39 or E39->E26 base adapter so that each LED HID replacement bulb can fit in the socket just in case the base is different than initially thought.

Another new LED HID lamp for 2024 is the GE ED18 LU400 replacement bulb. Again the picture shows the LED bulb design mimics that of the LU250 or LU400 high pressure sodium bulb with the 9.7″ length and 3.0″ diameter. At 180W these bulbs put out 30,000 lumens which exceeds the NEMA standard for High Pressure Sodium 400W equivalency. Available in 3000K, 4000K or 5000K and an EX39 mogul base. Bypass the ballast and wire direct on 120-277V.

If you have a 1000W BT56, they have a great new option for that as well. Previously they had a 450W 65,000 lumen BT56 LED HID replacement. But that was not quite enough to replace all 1000W+ HID sources like a 1000W HPS or 1500W metal halide, so they stepped it up with a 470W 85,000 lumen lamp. This comes in at an amazing 181 lumens per watt and is by far the highest output LED lamp on the market. Operates off 277-480V and comes in 4000K or 5000K color. 12.8″ length with the long-neck BT56 design to make it a little longer than the previous 450W version which was 12.3″ length.

GE also tied some loose ends by expanding their 277V-480V LED HID replacement line to include their lower-watt 50W and 80W LED HID bulbs. Normally they come in 120-277V but there are times where these lower-wattage HID lamps are on 480V and require an LED capable of running on that voltage. At the same time, GE Current came out with some 208-277V higher wattage LED HID replacement lamps in the event that you have a 400W-1000W HID operating below at a voltage between 208V-277V. All of GE Current’s HID LED replacements now are rated for use up to 50°C and down to -40°C.

Last but not least, GE Current continues to develop their line of hazardous location HID LED replacements. Previously available in the smaller ED17 size in 21W, 35W and 45W, GE Current hazardous lighting now includes 80W ED23.5 replacements and even 150W LED ED28 hazardous location bulb. All the color temp options of 3000K, 4000K or 5000K. These lamps have high temp ratings and are rated for class 1 and div 2 applications, meaning they are designed to operate where flammable vapors and gases are present. For the 80W and 150W, GE Current created versions of these lamps in 120-277V as well as 277-480V which will surely be a hit.
