Adding LED Tube-Ready Fixtures to Brighten Up Space in Parking Garage

Premier Lighting for many years has handled the lighting needs for various multi-housing and senior living facilities. This includes traditional lighting supply; T8’s, ballasts, lenses, CFL’s, etc from our St. Paul warehouse as well as retrofitting fixtures to LED or getting new LED fixtures.

Garage lighting for a facility like this is important. With a fluorescent tube system, as the system degrades (lamps burn out and/or get dim in brightness) the overall light quality becomes poor. The lighting can change color on top of just not be sufficient enough in terms of light levels.

Check out the picture above; you will see a before picture on the right and then an after picture on the left. The 32W fluorescent tubes were retrofitted to 18.5W 4000K cool white lamps that were around 2500 lumens each. On top of that, new LED tube-ready fixtures were added to the parking stalls for added light. These lamps are all ballast-bypass style, meaning no ballasts or drivers to maintain long term (just the LED tubes, which should last well over 5 years). Sensors can also be used in a garage LED tube retrofit like this for added savings and rebates are highly favoring any addition of controls to a project these days!

In a parking garage, the goal is a uniform light with no dark spots and overall light levels should err on the high side so that people feel comfortable going to and from their cars. This is an added amenity that will help to increase occupancy rates in addition to saving energy.
