Customer Profile:

Holiday Stationstores is a recognized leader in the convenience store industry with over 500 stores throughout ten states in the northern region of the United States: Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, Washington, Alaska and the Dakotas. Holiday provides customers with a shopping experience that is unique to the convenience store industry – from big stores and wide aisles to wide product selection and friendly employees.

Goal:

Holiday had several stores that were having issues with their exterior lighting. Lights had either faded or were out completely. Holiday was hoping to do a clean sweep of these problem lights in hopes of finding a long-lasting LED solution that would eliminate long-term maintenance hassles and save energy.

Solution:

Holiday enlisted Premier Lighting to analyze the lighting at three of their stores in the Twin Cities area. The exterior lighting at each of them was comprised of 400W HID canopy lights (using 460W with the ballast). Several of these HID fixtures were out and even more had faded drastically. The fading caused the coloring of the lights to change and created an uneven distribution. Premier proposed switching them all out for 120W LED canopy fixtures that were DLC rated and would last 65,000+ hours each.

Results:

Knocking out all the 400W HID fixtures for 120W LED Canopy Lights increased light levels by 20% and saved 74% on energy at each of the gas stations. The North Oaks and White Bear Township Holiday stations were slated for payback at 1.97 years. The Fridley gas station had more fixtures to replace and also received a higher rebate, so payback for that Holiday station was set for 1.38 years.
