Lighting Controls in Action at Walker Methodist Parking Garage

These days in lighting there are all kinds of sophisticated control systems. From LiFi to BlueTooth Mesh, lights are now able to be controlled individually or as a group by the touch of a button or through a phone app. But there is also something to be said for simple lighting controls that save additional energy and make sense for the application.

At Walker Methodist, Premier Lighting has served them for many years with traditional lighting supply to full-scale LED retrofits. In the parking garage featured in the video above, old fluorescent fixtures were taken out and new LED garage fixtures were installed with built-in occupancy sensors.

When the space in an application like this is unoccupied, there is no reason to blast the light out on full 24/7. As you can see in the video the lights are partially on and as motion is detected, they brighten up to 100%. Once the space is vacated with no motion detected for a given period of time, they go back down to partial light.

The idea of adding lighting controls is to provide a benefit to the area that outweighs the additional cost of implementing them. A parking garage much like a stairway is a great place to utilize them to further energy savings, reduce light waste, and extend the life of the source. If you have a similar situation or are curious how lighting controls can benefit your space, contact Premier Lighting today.
