Master List of the Benefits of a Lighting Retrofit

eco friendly

In our last post about what’s involved in a lighting retrofit, we briefly listed a few of the advantages of retrofitting. But, there are even more positive aspects to discuss. If you’re still on the fence in deciding if this project is right for you, consider this master list of lighting retrofit benefits.

Decrease Energy Costs

Upgrading your existing system can reduce your lighting energy costs by anywhere from 25 to 90 percent. This number may go even higher for more comprehensive retrofits that include things like occupancy and daylight sensors, task lighting, adjustable window blinds, and dimmers.

Tax Incentives, Grants, & Rebates

Depending on where you live and the types of lights you install, retrofitting could make you eligible for a variety of tax incentives and grants. These are offered through local, state, and federal government programs for the purpose of saving energy and protecting the environment. Even some lighting and utility companies offer rebates for purchasing energy efficient products. By taking advantage of these opportunities, you can shave a significant amount off of the upfront cost.

Fast ROI

Lower energy costs combined with the tax and other incentives means most businesses see a return on their investment in two years or less. At Premier Lighting, we’ll provide you with a detailed ROI report for your specific retrofit project.

Less Maintenance

Today’s lights are rugged and designed to have long lives. In some cases, you may not have to replace a bulb or even touch a fixture for years at a time. Not only is this less hassle, but it reduces the time and money spent on maintenance.

Environmentally Friendly

In addition to saving energy, products like LEDs don’t contain any harmful chemicals (such as mercury) and are safer for the environment than many earlier technologies. You can feel good knowing you’re helping the planet, and your customers will appreciate the fact that you care.

Better Lighting

For many businesses, the ultimate deciding factor is the quality of the lights. In other words, if the light output is subpar then none of these other benefits matter. The good news is most modern lights emit crisper, cleaner, and more natural light than their older counterparts. Consequently, upgrading to more efficient lamps doesn’t mean you have to lower your light standards.

Safer

A better illuminated facility that’s free of dim areas, flickering, and poor color cuts down on the amount of worker accidents. Also, high visibility deters intruders and criminal activity.

Boost Worker Productivity

High quality enhances worker productivity in all types of business environments. For instance, in warehouses, clear illumination results in fewer picking errors and loading mishaps. Similarly, in offices, employees struggle less with headaches and eyestrain caused by inadequate lighting.

Lower HVAC Costs

Many modern bulbs and fixtures produce far less heat than older setups. Therefore, retrofitting reduces a major source of heat in your interior spaces and puts less stress on your AC unit.

Easier Operation

Say goodbye to inconvenient warm up and restrike time as well as irritating buzzing sounds. Retrofits like T5 and T8 linear fluorescents and LEDs turn on and off instantly, are quiet, and some are even dimmable.

Wow, I had no idea that there would be so many financial advantages to getting a lighting retrofit! My husband and I have been thinking of getting a lot of our outdoor lights replaced with LEDs, but we want to be sure that it will save us in the long run. If we could also get an incentive or rebate for it, then we definitely wouldn’t need to pay much out of pocket. That’d be really nice!

Thank you for mentioning that there can be tax incentives for light retrofitting. My husband and I want to do sign light retrofitting this year, we will be buying from Premier Lighting and likely Keystone’s SignHero lamps.
